Celtic are preparing a contingency plan in the event that Kieran Tierney doesn’t return to the club this month. The Scottish Champions had been working to bring KT back to the club but it appears that Mikel Arteta has scuppered this from happening.

According to Mail Online’s Stephen McGowan, Celtic have registered an interest with United over a deal for the Dutch fullback. The report suggests that Celtic and Real Betis are interested in a deal that would see a loan move until the summer, which would assist in getting the player back to fitness.

Tierney has agreed a pre-contract that will see him make a sensational return to Celtic in the summer. However, injuries have resulted in a re-emergence of the fullback in the Arsenal first team.

The Scotland Internationalist was on the bench for Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Girona on Wednesday night but didn’t get onto the pitch. Lewis-Skelly replaced Calafiori, with the pair becoming Arteta’s preferred left back choices this year. It appears that Arsenal have refused to allow the player return to Celtic on loan for the remainder of the season due to squad shortages.

Celtic must move swiftly to get a contingency plan into action with Greg Taylor the only recognised left back at the club. Celtic had Adam Montgomery on the bench as cover for Taylor last night but the manager will want to quickly ensure that cover is brought in at LB. Liam Scales can also play there but he’s proven to be highly rated as Brendan’s third central defender.
