For the fifth consecutive year, Celtic FC Foundation have partnered up with Islamic Relief UK to provide food assistance to hundreds of vulnerable individuals and families in Glasgow.
Foundation Colleagues and volunteers from Islamic Relief came together at the Gateway Church in Dalmarnock to pack 200 essential food packages, which were then distributed to local schools and community organisations across the city.
Each pack supports an entire household, and contains essential items such as tinned vegetables, soup, cereal and biscuits, along with toiletries and a £10 food voucher.
The Foundation maintains a strong partnership with Islamic Relief UK, with both groups dedicated to supporting local families facing financial hardship. The initiative also reinforces the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to tackling food insecurity, loneliness, and isolation.
Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive Tony Hamilton said: “"Islamic Relief UK has been a valued and trusted partner of ours for many years, and we are incredibly pleased to collaborate with them once again on this latest initiative.
“We’re very grateful to them, our partners at the Gateway Church, and the colleagues and volunteers from Islamic Relief who have given up their own time to pack bags and distribute food.
“It’s unimaginable the hardship that many families and individuals are facing right now, with so many struggling to put food on the table. This initiative goes a long way in alleviating some of that burden, providing not only much-needed supplies but also a sense of relief and hope for those in need."
Nadeem Baqir, Scotland Regional Manager for Islamic Relief UK added: “Food poverty in the UK has reached unacceptable levels for a wealthy nation and is often made worse during winter as people are forced to choose between heating and eating. This is why it’s so important we do these winter food drives, as they are a lifeline for vulnerable families.
“But in the face of this, we’re really delighted to see local institutions like Celtic FC Foundation doing their part for the community. We’ve done amazing work with them in the past and look forward to doing so long into the future. Their commitment to the local community in hard times is truly admirable.”
