Casemiro could reportedly see out his career at Manchester United after Ruben Amorim had a dramatic change of heart about his role at the club.
The Brazilian has struggled for form since his sensational debut season with United. His declining performances and mega salary, believed to be worth £375,000-a-week, saw him linked with an exit throughout last summer and during the January transfer window.
Saudi Arabia has often been mentioned as a potential transfer destination for Casemiro but a transfer has never materialised.
However, in recent weeks, Casemiro has been playing well again and seems to have rediscovered his best form. He has been especially crucial in the Europa League, playing a big part in United’s advancement to the final, where they will face Tottenham Hotspur.
His fingerprints were all over the Red Devils’ sensational comeback against Lyon in the quarter-final tie, and he also scored in both legs of the 7-1 aggregate victory over Athletic Club.
Amorim has repeatedly spoken glowingly of Casemiro, lauding his professionalism and leadership credentials.
Now, The Sun report that the veteran midfielder’s resurgence may have convinced Amorim to keep him at the club and shelve any plans they had to offload him in the upcoming transfer window.
“Casemiro could be set to see out his career at Manchester United after an incredible U-turn by Ruben Amorim.”
“The former Real Madrid star looked certain to leave Old Trafford over the summer after an alarming dip in form. But the midfielder has been revitalised in recent weeks and has starred for the Red Devils in their European adventure.”
“United sources say Amorim has been working closely with the player at Carrington, and now thinks he has a big role to play in the rebuilding of the club.”
The Sun adds that Amorim appreciates Casemiro’s experience and versatility, and believes he can play a valuable role in the club’s rebuilding efforts.
Meanwhile, Casemiro is also happy in England and “open-minded” about seeing out his career at United.
He knows he could earn big money in the Saudi Pro League but he retains a desire to continue playing at the highest level.
