Burnley are preparing for life back in the Championship after their relegation from the Premier League.

The Clarets were promoted to the Premier League in the 2022-23 season after winning the Championship title, and many had expected them to be able to make the step up to the top flight.

However, it did not work out that way, and Burnley were relegated after an incredibly disappointing season in which they won just five league games, accumulating a total of 24 points.

There is significant uncertainty over the future of manager Vincent Kompany following the Clarets' relegation, with the Belgian reportedly attracting interest from Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford and Bayern Munich.

It remains to be seen whether Kompany will remain at Turf Moor next season, but it seems that Burnley are pushing ahead with their summer transfer plans, and according to The Sun, Basel winger Liam Millar is on their radar.

Burnley fan pundit reacts to Liam Millar links

FLW's Burnley fan pundit Ben Livingstone says that while Millar is a good player, he would have reservations over a potential deal for him, particularly considering the number of wingers already at the club.

"Liam Millar's being linked to a few clubs in the Championship, Sheffield United, Sunderland, Burnley etc," he said.

"I think Preston will do what they can, but when you're dealing with Sheffield United and Burnley who have gone down, the pull is probably a lot bigger and the money is a lot bigger in both spending and what they can offer wages wise.

"I think it's an interesting one, he played left-wing back last year and has previously played a bit further up for Basel, he has European pedigree, so that's something that is always good, especially in the Championship.

"I think he's a good player for sure, he's very fast, he's good on the ball, a good dribbler. "Defensively I'm not too convinced to be honest, I think we can do better than Liam Millar. "I think Sam McCallum on a free would be a better signing than Millar, I'd imagine the fee will be about £2 million considering the teams that are rumoured to be interested. "In terms of wingers, Burnley are stacked in that position with Benson, Zaroury, Odobert, Koleosho, Redmond, so many options, and if we sign Bruun Larson, that's another one as well.

"I can't see that one happening, and to be honest I wouldn't be convinced if it did happen."

Burnley should avoid Liam Millar deal this summer

Millar would be an interesting signing for Burnley, and it is easy to see why he is on the radar of Championship clubs after a decent season on loan at Preston.

The Canadian international impressed in a left-wing back role for the Lilywhites, but that is not a system that the Clarets currently use, and with plenty of wingers already on the club's books, there are question marks over whether Millar would be an upgrade on their existing options.

If any of Burnley's wingers were to depart this summer, it could be worth pursuing a deal for Millar, but at this point, they should focus on strengthening other areas of the team.
