Newcastle United have seen their £25 million bid for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford knocked back (h/t Sky Sports).
Per the report, ‘There is a huge gap between clubs’ valuation of the goalkeeper, but talks continue.’
Newcastle want a new shot-stopper between the sticks and are eyeing Trafford, who was excellent for Burnley as they booked their return to the top flight.
Trafford kept 29 clean sheets in 45 appearances in the Championship, catching the eye of suitors including Newcastle.
His performances earned him praise from Burnley gaffer Scott Parker, who hailed him as ‘world-class’.
The Magpies look set to let Martin Dubravka leave this summer, and Trafford is on the list of replacements. His arrival could also force Nick Pope out of St. James’ Park.
However, Newcastle have struggled to get the deal over the line for some time.
Despite reports that they are close to shaking hands, the latest report shows there is still some way to go.
Newcastle also face similar stumbling blocks in their bid to sign Brighton & Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro.
They reportedly saw an offer rejected for the versatile Brazilian attacker.
Manager Eddie Howe is a fan of Pedro and his versatility and would love to have him in the Newcastle squad, but Brighton will demand big money to let him go.
Pedro bagged 10 goals and seven assists in 30 appearances for the Seagulls this term.
He recorded 20 goals and three assists in 40 outings last season, taking the Premier League by storm.
Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest are also not budging regarding winger Anthony Elanga.
The Toons want to add the ferocious wideman to the ranks this summer, but Forest have not played ball.
Newcastle are eager to reinforce the roster for Howe following his League Cup success.
The Toons will likely return with bigger bids for their targets while staving off interest in talisman Alexander Isak.
