There have been no shortage of developments on potential candidates for the top job at Turf Moor in recent days.

Burnley will be looking to name their new manager as quickly as possible as pre-season approaches.

In fairness to the Clarets' board, it's not a massive crime that they haven't appointed Vincent Kompany's successor yet, considering they seem to have stability in other areas.

The playing squad, for example, looks strong at this stage and a rebuild certainly won't be required unless anything too drastic happens in the coming months.

That should give the Lancashire side the opportunity to make a strong start to the season, although they will need to have their new manager in place soon if they are to make that a reality.

Not only does an appointment need to be made fairly quickly, but the right man needs to come in if the club are going to compete for promotion again, and Alan Pace and other key figures at Turf Moor have certainly taken their time to try and make the best possible appointment.

We have rounded up some of the latest news on the club's managerial situation below.

A move for van Nistelrooy to become part of Erik ten Hag's coaching staff at Manchester United is "advancing fast", according to an update on X from Fabrizio Romano.

The former striker is also believed to be a strong candidate for the top job at Turf Moor, but van Nistelrooy has full control over his next move and with a move to United potentially becoming more likely, that is a blow for officials in Lancashire.

It's thought that the Dutchman is keen on a potential return to Old Trafford and with this in mind, it looks as though the Clarets may need to be prepared to pursue alternative candidates.

Having previously looked to be a strong contender for the Burnley job, van Nistelrooy may soon be out of the race.

Queens Park Rangers boss Marti Cifuentes has also been a contender for the job at Turf Moor, according to The Athletic.

With the Clarets thought to be admirers of the 41-year-old, it wouldn't be a shock if he's the person they turn to now, with the Spanish coach enjoying a great first season managing in England.

However, it looks as though it will take a lot to lure Cifuentes away from Loftus Road.

Asked about his links to other jobs, he told Sky Sports: "It means people value what you are doing.

"But this was a team effort. I am very focused on QPR and excited about the future."

The 41-year-old has been linked with the Sunderland job in recent times, but Regis Le Bris has been appointed at the Stadium of Light.

Craig Bellamy's future at Turf Moor may be uncertain now, with Henrik Jensen being appointed the club's new assistant manager.

Bellamy may be the club's caretaker boss at this stage, and he may be in contention to secure the top job permanently, but it's unclear whether he will win the race.

And to complicate matters, it has been reported by talkSPORT that he is in the running to become Wales' new manager.
