Real Madrid are in dire need of retrospect following a mixed start to the new season. Their recent defeat to Barcelona highlighted many of the team’s shortcomings, which must be addressed going forward.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti has already started giving special attention to the team’s defensive scheme. But should Real Madrid’s troubles continue, the club may need to take more drastic measures.
In fact, it is not ruled out that Real Madrid could find a new coach next summer to lead the new project while a host of stars are also expected to join the club.
To that end, a recent report from Sky Sports has offered a rather promising update, as far as Real Madrid’s pursuit of Xabi Alonso and Florian Wirtz is concerned.
As per the report, the possibility of the Bayer Leverkusen duo joining Real Madrid next summer is growing with each passing day.

This comes after Leverkusen’s relatively slow start to the new season, with Die Werkself already dropping as many as 11 points – which is just one shy of the points they dropped in the entirety of the Bundesliga last season.
Alonso, for one, might consider leaving Leverkusen after the end of the season, with Real Madrid more than prepared to hand him the reins.
Although Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has recently claimed that Alonso’s future at Leverkusen should be secure until 2026, a lot may depend on how Leverkusen perform this season.
As for Wirtz, the German is still regarded as one of the best young talents on the planet. The creativity wizard has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a long time now, with the club targeting him as the ideal long-term replacement for Luka Modric.
Should Real Madrid manage to rope in Alonso next summer, one would expect Wirtz to follow the Spaniard to the Spanish capital.
