Brentford Women could not take their chances against Sport London E Benfica at Bedfont, with Sunday's 0-0 draw confirming the away side as the league champions and securing promotion.

The Bees fought hard to try and secure a win that would have kept their title and promotion hopes alive, but despite controlling possession for the majority of the game, the away side defended well to keep the scores level.

There was only one change to the side that beat Richmond Park at Wheatsheaf Park earlier in the week as Eleanor Cottrell was given a a starting berth.

Brentford went into this game knowing that a win in today's game would leave them in full control of the title race and they began with intent.

It was a fast start from Osbourne's side as his team were probing the Sport London E Benfica penalty area.

Logie had Brentford's first big chance of the game, swivelling and smashing against the post from just inside the penalty area.

Nikki Woods was causing havoc down the left and she was next to try her luck, just missing the target with her effort.

Kirsty Matthews’ free-kick only just missed the target with the keeper rooted to the spot.

Woods drew an excellent save from the goalkeeper with an effort from distance in the second half.

The away side stood strong and resolute for the remainder of the game as Brentford failed to fashion any more clear-cut opportunities.

The draw means that Osbourne's side cannot win the league despite the three games in hand over Sunday's opponents.

Attention turns to next weekend's Capital Cup final against Leatherhead Women which is on Sunday 28 April and kick-off is scheduled for 3pm.
