Brentford vs Aston Villa Match Preview: Brentford welcome Aston Villa to the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday as both clubs look to really kick-start their seasons after disappointing results on Matchday 1 in the Premier League.
Brentford come into the game after a bitterly disappointing opening-day drubbing away to Nottingham Forest, where they were outperformed in every aspect of the pitch on their way to their 3-1 defeat.
Keith Andrews will be hopeful of getting his first Premier League win as a manager but will have work to do to overthrow European hopefuls Aston Villa with a manager oozing class and experience in Unai Emery. Andrews has struggled to keep his best players this summer, with Bryan Mbeumo moving to Man United and Yoanne Wissa removing all memory of Brentford from his social media. Ironically, Brentford hired a set-piece coach as manager and conceded from a corner 5 minutes in, it could be a long season for the Bees.
Villa, however, will also feel the need to pick up 3 points against the Bees following what can only be described as a dull at best 0-0 draw at Villa Park against Newcastle United. With Ezri Konsa suspended due to receiving a red card, they will have to shuffle the pack at the back. Aston Villa were poor and were lucky not to lose against Newcastle, but they will expect a different outcome in their tie against Brentford away from home.
Despite Villa taking 6 points off The Bees last season, the head-to-head record is tied, with both clubs having won 4 games each, whilst there have been 7 draws between the two clubs.
Villa had Brentford’s number on both occasions last season, with Ollie Watkins providing a winning goal for the Villains just after halftime last time out at the Gtech Community Stadium. Watkins was also on the scoresheet in the earlier game in the season when his goal sent Emery’s side on their way to a comprehensive 3-1 win against Brentford last season.

A comfortable 2-0 win for Aston Villa could have questions being asked of Keith Andrews’ capabilities already, without Wissa and Mbuemo, while the Villains start their march for Europe this season.
