Brentford have agreed a deal to sign Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson on a season-long loan.
The 25-year-old is expected to undergo a medical today before finalising the move ahead of the transfer deadline.
Brentford will also have the option to make the deal permanent next summer.
Nelson had interest from Fulham, Crystal Palace and Villarreal but has chosen to remain in London with the Bees.
He spent last season on loan at Fulham, making 12 appearances before a hamstring injury ended his campaign in December.
Marco Silva had considered bringing him back to Craven Cottage, but Fulham switched focus to other attacking targets.
Nelson’s preference was to stay in the capital, which helped Brentford win the race.
The winger has made 90 senior appearances for Arsenal since graduating from the club’s academy.
He has also had loan spells in Germany with Hoffenheim and in the Netherlands with Feyenoord.
In total, he has played 61 Premier League matches, scoring five goals and providing three assists.
Brentford moved for Nelson after sanctioning Yoane Wissa’s £55 million transfer to Newcastle United earlier today.
The Bees had already lost Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United earlier in the summer.
New head coach Keith Andrews has been pressing for more attacking depth before the window closes.
The club-record arrival of Dango Ouattara has eased some pressure, but Nelson’s versatility adds another option on the flanks.
He is capable of playing on either wing and will provide cover for Kevin Schade.
Keane Lewis-Potter has impressed at left-back, while youngster Gustavo Nunes is still seen as too raw for a regular role.
Nelson’s arrival gives Andrews another senior wide option in what has been a major attacking reshuffle.
The Arsenal forward signed a new contract last year keeping him tied to the Emirates until 2027.
He has struggled for consistent minutes under Mikel Arteta, particularly after the arrivals of Noni Madueke, Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze this summer.
Brentford believe the loan offers Nelson the chance to regain form and fitness while playing regularly.
The club are aware of the injury concerns that disrupted his spell at Fulham but remain confident he can contribute.
If Nelson adapts quickly, Brentford could trigger their option to buy at the end of the season.
The move signals the Bees’ determination to rebuild their attack after losing two of their most productive forwards.
