Brentford have been handed fresh terms in their bid to sign Ipswich Town forward Omari Hutchinson.

The Bees are keen to sign the exciting winger, but The Standard reports that they’ll now have to cough up around £40 million to get a deal over the line.

Brentford are in the market for a new winger with talisman Bryan Mbeumo poised to join Manchester United this summer.

Hutchinson has been identified as a like-for-like replacement for the Cameroon international, but Brentford have hit a snag in their efforts to lure him to the Gtech Community Stadium.

The 21-year-old forward joined Ipswich from Chelsea just last summer in a deal worth over £20m.

They added a £35m release clause in his contract, but it could only be triggered if the Tractor Boys were relegated. That clause also needed be activated by initerested clubs before Tuesday’s deadline.

However, Brentford missed that window, but not for lack of trying.

The West Londoners made several last-minute attempts to beat the clock and activate the clause. But they failed to meet Ipswich’s demands, especially regarding the structure of the deal.

Now that the clause has expired, Ipswich have bumped up their asking price and made it clear that they would only sanction a sale if their demands are met.

Hutchinson signed a long-term deal with Ipswich and still has four years left on his contract, so the Tractor Boys are under no pressure to sell their key player.

They would only consider a deal if they received an offer of around £40m, which Brentford are reluctant to meet. The Bees are hoping they can close a deal for a fee closer to the initial £35m clause.

Hutchinson had a decent campaign for relegated Ipswich last term.

His modest tally of three goals and two assists may raise eyebrows considering he was a key part of Kieran McKenna’s set-up and started in 30 of his 31 Premier League appearances.

He created six big chances last season and is still considered a brilliant young talent.
