Brentford have announced that Kevin Schade has joined the club from Freiburg on an initial loan deal with an optional purchase clause, subject to international clearance.

90min reported earlier this week that the Bees were closing in on a deal worth €20m plus add-ons to sign the versatile forward, and his move to the Gtech Community Stadium is now complete. He will sign a five-year deal if the deal is made permanent.

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank said: “I think Kevin is a typical Brentford signing. He is a young, promising talent that we see a big potential in. We have been following him for a while and we think he will suit our style of play.

“He can play anywhere across our front three positions. He could play for us on either wing or as the central striker. He has great pace and is very promising in the way he runs behind defences.

“He is very good aerially, in both boxes, and can develop even more to be a real threat as an offensive option with his head.

“We like the way he presses when the team do not have the ball. He is willing to work very hard for his team. We see him as a player that could have a big potential to be a fine goal scorer and it is great to have him at Brentford. Our coaching staff are looking forward to working with him.”

Though capable of playing across the frontline, Schade is primarily a right winger - a position in which Bryan Mbeumo is currently Brentford's only real option.

The 21-year-old played 12 times for Freiburg across their Bundesliga and Europa League campaigns this season - albeit only clocking 295 minutes - contributing one goal and two assists.

At international level, Schade has caught the eye with Germany's Under-21 side since making his first appearance in 2021, scoring four goals in five games.
