Brentford fought hard but ultimately fell to the quality of the Chelsea Under-21s this afternoon at Wheatsheaf Park.

Ethan Brierley scored a fantastic goal, striking from just outside the box into the top corner which was the most memorable moment of the game. Despite this, it was Chelsea who came out the victors.

The Bees started the game in a low block, containing the early pressure from the young Blues.

A good press early on almost gave Brentford the first goal as Tony Yogane closed down Max Merrick deflecting the keeper’s attempted clearance behind the goal.

A long ball over the top was cleared by Josh Acheampong straight into the path of Ashley Hay and with the keeper out of position the striker attempted a first-timed shot which only just went wide.

Despite the positive start, an Ishe Samuel-Smith cross found Shumaira Mheuka in the box and the striker tucked his shot into the net as Julian Eyestone could only get fingertips on it.

Max Dickov made a fantastic recovery challenge on Mheuka who looked destined to score when he was played through on goal.

Ashley Hay was put through on goal by Isaac Holland but with only the keeper to beat the striker failed to get the right connection, steering the ball wide.

The young Bees levelled though as Ethan Brierley struck a fierce shot from just outside of the box into the top corner od the net.

The Blues regained the lead two minutes later though as a great team move resulted in Samuels-Smith half-volleying the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

A third was scored by the away side as Mheuka grabbed his second of the game, bundling the ball into the net.

Second-half substitute Conor McManus made a great stop with his left boot to stop Ato Ampah from making it four.

Brierley went very close to scoring his and the team’s second as he struck a great free-kick that only just went wide.

Brentford continued to work hard but ultimately could not add to the scoreline as the game would end with the Blues taking the win.
