Back on the scoresheets, Breel Embolo (27) is looking to make up for lost time, and maybe also to extend his contract at AS Monaco.
Following his move from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2022, Embolo enjoyed a strong debut campaign at the Principality club, netting 14 times in all competitions. However, he missed all of the entirety of last season after suffering an ACL injury in pre-season.
Back fit, he is also on form this season. The goals didn’t flow in the opening games, although he was vital to Les Monégasques in build-up. He now has two in his last two games, however. With just 18 months remaining on his contract at Monaco, the question of a renewal is a pertinent one.
Asked by Get French Football News journalist Luke Entwistle whether a renewal was in the pipeline, Embolo responded: “I’ll take that and say that to the president and the sporting director! I’m not thinking about it too much,” began the Swiss international.
He added, “I lost a year with an ACL injury. I feel at ease here. I’m just trying to make up for the matches that I lost last year, to be important and work hard for the team, and to achieve the collective objectives. For the rest (the contract), there is still time.18 months, you can have a kid in that time. I’m not putting myself under any pressure for that. It doesn’t depend just on me. When we have talks, we’ll see what comes of them.”
