After nearly four months of self-imposed exile, Borussia Dortmund centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck has publicly commented on his comeback from injury. The 25-year-old addressed supporters in a statement released on the BVB website. Schlotterbeck aims to be back playing Bundesliga football in two months.
“My goal remains to be fit again by October,” Schlotterbeck noted in his statement. “The rehab work continues to go according to plan. I’m working every day on my comeback and look forward to being back on the pitch with my teammates in the most beautiful stadium in the world.“
Schlotterbeck’s meniscus tear – incurred in early April 2025 – came at a most unfortunate time. Schlotterbeck registered two assists as a corner taker in his final competitive fixture, a 3-1 home win over Mainz on matchday 27.
Schlotterbeck also did extremely well for the German national team in two appearances for Juluan Nagelsmann’s Nationalmannschaft during the March international break.
The October return renders it unlikely that he’ll have a chance to appear under Nagelsmann again in the current 2025 calendar year.
