Sky Germany reports that Borussia Dortmund’s move for Lyon’s Rayan Cherki is now off as no agreement could be reached with Lyon.
Dortmund made an offer of €22.5m for Cherki on Saturday, but the offer was rejected by Lyon. The owner of Lyon, John Textor was then asked by Sky for a statement and the American said:
“The offer from Dortmund was communicated disrespectfully, was well below market value and came at the wrong time. He will remain an important part of our team until the end of the 2024/25 season. We have rejected Borussia Dortmund’s offer and have no intention of negotiating with them or any other club.”
It is said that Dortmund are surprised by the public comments by Textor about the Cherki transfer, especially the statement stating that they were too late. Earlier on in the window, Lyon and Cherki had a verbal agreement that the 21-year-old could leave the Rhône Alps side this month, but Textor did not agree to the agreement.
Whether Dortmund have an alternative to Cherki is yet to be seen, but with only four hours remaining in the transfer window, they will likely have to deal with the arrivals of Diant Ramaj, Carney Chukwuemeka and Daniel Svensson, with the latter two the only signings being an immediate help to the club.
