With the end of November very much in sight, Borussia Dortmund’s season is inching closer and closer to the halfway point, and in extension to the winter transfer market. While it’s still unclear as to whether Die Schwarzgelben will be making any moves once the window opens, that hasn’t stopped transfer rumors from finding their way to the fore.
According to recent reports, Dortmund seems to be interested in Norwegian top talent Sverre Nypan. The Rosenborg midfielder has been responsible for seven goals and six assists in his last 27 Eliteserien appearances, and his performances have caught the interest of some of Europe's biggest clubs.
The report indicates that up until recently it was assumed that Manchester United held the best cards in terms of their chances to sign the player. United’s reported inaction in this vein has opened the race up to Dortmund, but also the likes of Chelsea, RB Leipzig and AC Milan.
The player, who’s been dubbed the next Martin Ödegaard, plays as either a central midfielder or as a striker for his current club. His current market value of 11 million euros likely doesn’t encompass the fee he would go for, especially with so much interest. His contract is only until 2026 however, meaning that there would be less wiggle room for Rosenborg in terms of a potential sale, especially if they don’t want to risk losing Nypan on a free.
For Dortmund, a move for Nypan could set the club up to feature the next big Norwegian attacking talent after Erling Haaland; an enticing prospect or say the least. Reports linking Dortmund to Jobe Bellingham also suggest the club could be in the market for an attack-minded midfielder. That being said however, the club would have to make room in the squad to give him a favorable perspective and path to first-team football.
It's early days in terms of any potential move coming to fruition, but there is no doubt that Nypan is an interesting young player for Dortmund to be interested in. The way December shapes up for the club will be critical in determining whether Dortmund becomes active in the transfer market based on necessity.
