French prodigy Leny Yoro remains one of the hottest transfer prospects this summer. After a breakout season with Lille, the young defender has attracted interest from Europe’s elite.

Real Madrid, in particular, have been keen on securing his signature for their backline, as the European champions look to find a long-term replacement for Nacho Fernandez.

Real Madrid’s problem with Yoro pursuit

Los Blancos had identified Yoro as their ideal long-term solution at centre-back for a while now. However, a major hurdle existed: Lille’s hefty asking price.

Despite Yoro’s contract expiring in 2025, the French club refused to budge on their valuation. Real Madrid weren’t willing to meet Lille’s demands, which reportedly sat around €60 million.

This stance seemed to create an impasse, even Los Blancos to look for other alternatives in the market.

With Yoro potentially walking away for free next year if an agreement wasn’t reached, a solution seemed unlikely.

A major boost for Los Blancos

But in a major development, Lille appear to be softening their stance. Recognizing the potential for Yoro to leave on a free transfer next year, they’re now open to negotiating his sale, reports Rodra P (h/t Madrid Zone).

The key factor in this change might be Yoro’s own desire. Reports claim he’s firmly set on playing for Real Madrid, further incentivizing Lille to reach a deal.

Negotiations regarding the transfer fee are ongoing. While Real Madrid initially offered around €40 million, Lille are currently seeking closer to €50 million. This gap appears bridgeable with potential add-ons of around €10 million.

An agreement to sign Yoro this summer could go a long way in helping Real Madrid solidify their defensive unit, especially after the recent departures of Nacho Fernandez and Rafa Marin.
