Bolton Wanderers are looking to sign Chelsea keeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe on loan after his impressive season with Doncaster Rovers.

The 22-year-old joined the Londoners from Burton Albion in 2020, initially linking up with the Blues’ academy.

As you would expect, Sharman-Lowe has found it difficult to get near the first XI at Stamford Bridge, so he has spent the past few years out on loan, having spells with Havant & Waterlooville, Bromley and, most recently, Doncaster.

The stopper particularly impressed at Rovers, as he played every single minute for Grant McCann’s side as they won the League Two title, keeping 13 clean sheets in the process.

So, it was inevitable that he would make the step up next season, and whilst Doncaster would presumably have tried to bring him back to the club, it appears Bolton have moved into the driving seat for Sharman-Lowe’s signature.

Football League World first reported on May 9th that Bolton were battling Doncaster for the goalkeeper's services and, now, Football Insider have revealed the Trotters are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign the player on a season-long loan.

The update adds that Sharman-Lowe is set to sign a new contract with Chelsea before the deal is finalised, to ensure the Premier League outfit protect their asset.

Bolton Wanderers set for huge summer ahead of Steven Schumacher’s first full season

It’s fair to say that Schumacher has had a mixed start at Bolton, after his appointment at the end of January to succeed Ian Evatt.

The side couldn’t sustain a serious play-off push, much to the disappointment of all connected to the club.

So, a massive summer awaits, and it’s no surprise that bringing in a new keeper is going to be one of the priorities for Schumacher.

Luke Southwood and Nathan Baxter both had chances under the former Plymouth chief, and, in truth, they didn’t really convince, so it’s an area they will need to address if they are to kick-on.

Even though Sharman-Lowe is unproven at this level, the reality is that his performances in the fourth tier were very good, and you would expect him to be an upgrade if he continues to develop.

It’s also a great opportunity for the keeper, and he will no doubt relish the chance to join up with a Bolton squad that will expect to be challenging for promotion.

So, it would be a very positive start to the window for Bolton, and it will be interesting to see what the XI looks like when the season begins in August.
