Leandro Paredes’ return to Boca Juniors, which had been a given for certain in recent days, has suffered a setback.
The agreement between the Argentine midfielder and the Buenos Aires club was reached last week: a contract until 2028, with an option for a further season, and a salary of 2 million euros net per season.
As reported by Il Messaggero, however, the main issue concerns Boca’s failure to pay the 3.5 million euro release clause required to release the player from Roma.
The sum was not paid by June 30, the date that would have allowed the Giallorossi club to record the capital gain in the balance sheet of the financial year just ended.
The gentlemen’s agreement stipulated between the two clubs in March has therefore expired, and now Boca Juniors will have to return to the negotiating table with Frederic Massara.
The Argentine club’s intention is to obtain a discount, but Roma does not seem willing to grant it. The goal, on both sides, is to reach an agreement before the start of preseason in Trigoria.
