Chelsea have been invited to play a friendly at Brazil’s famous Maracana Stadium, after Fluminense were left impressed with how the Blues handled the Thiago Silva deal.

The club announced on Tuesday that Silva had signed a two year contract with Fluminense and will return to Brazil after the final game of the season against Bournemouth.

The 39-year-old has spent four seasons in west London, establishing himself as a fan favourite, and won the Champions League, Club World Cup and Uefa Super Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have given Silva permission to join up with his new team-mates early after the Brazilian season ends later this month, and he will be available to make his debut from July.

The veteran defender’s return to Fluminense means he will finish his illustrious career at the club where it all started back in 1998.

The Brazilian club’s President Mario Bittencourt couldn’t speak highly enough of how the Blues handled themselves in negotiations over Silva’s future, and offered them the chance to play in Brazil’s most famous stadium.

“We have a huge affection for Chelsea”, he’s quoted as saying by O Globo.

“The way they treated us from the beginning of negotiations until the end, they were not intransigent at any time.

“They let him wear the shirt, they let him arrive sooner.

“We are a club with origins in England, Fluminense was founded by English people, and we have huge affection for Chelsea.

“The way they respected us, they were very kind, I am a Chelsea fan in England and they showed impressive grandeur.

Silva has just three games left in his Chelsea career, starting with Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest, and he will reportedly be named as captain for the final game of the season against Bournemouth.

It’s believed the club have a number of plans to give the Brazilian the send off he deserves, and Stamford Bridge is sure to be an emotional place on the final day of the season.
