Blackburn Rovers, Oxford United, and West Brom are all eyeing a move for Swedish defender Filip Beckman.
Championship trio Blackburn Rovers, Oxford United, and West Bromwich Albion are all interested in signing Swedish defender Filip Beckman from Allsvenskan side GAIS.
The 22-year-old has been an important player for the Swedish side since he made his competitive debut for the club in 2023, racking up over 51 appearances across all competitions.
This has caught the eye of teams abroad, as according to Swedish newspaper Expressen, and relayed by Fotboll Transfers, Championship trio Blackburn, Oxford, and West Brom have all expressed interest in signing Beckman before the transfer window shuts on September 1st.
The three English clubs have reportedly been monitoring the centre-back, and are now weighing up whether they should make a move with just over a week remaining of the summer transfer window.
It's fair to say that not a lot is known about Beckman, as he's only been plying his trade in senior football in his home country since 2023, having been promoted to GAIS' first team.
Since then, the 22-year-old, who stands at 6ft 6in tall, has been an integral part of the Gothenburg side, racking up over half-a-century of appearances in all competitions, and impressing with his consistent performances.
This has reportedly raised eyebrows in the EFL according to Expressen, who've claimed that Blackburn, Oxford, and West Brom are all interested in bringing the Swede to England before the window closes on September 1.
The three English clubs are said to be in the final stages of scouting Beckman, and are now weighing up whether they should make an official bid before the transfer window slams shut next week.
It's currently unclear if there's a leader in the race to sign Beckman, but West Brom are still in the hunt for a replacement for Torbjorn Heggem, and the Swedish defender could be the man to replace the Bologna-bound centre-half.
The GAIS star is under contract in Gothenburg until 2027, and with how highly-rated he is by his current club, it would likely take a strong fee to convince them to sanction a sale.
As we've seen so often in the EFL, shopping in the market overseas can unearth some absolute gems, and earn clubs a huge profit later down the line if they go on to be a hit success.
Beckman could well be yet another of these rough diamonds that have been discovered abroad and identified because their qualities would suit the English game very well.
With that in mind, the interested parties will not only be thinking of the present, but the potential cash windfall in the future if he were to succeed in the Championship, and catch the eye of a bigger club in a couple of years time.
All-in-all, whilst not much is known about the GAIS starlet, signing him could certainly be a risk worth taking, thanks to the potentially huge rewards if he succeeds in the future.
