Oppie is on the books at German side Arminia Bielefeld, who he helped to win the third tier last season and secure promotion to the second tier.
The left-back’s performances have put him in line for a potential move, at the same time as a friend he is currently on holiday with could move to Arminia.
Birmingham City are interested in adding Oppie to the ranks, while Norwich City and Hull City are also suitors of the German.
They could though be left in the dust as Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin have taken action.
Union Berlin have now placed a bid with Arminia for Oppie as they look to see off English rivals for his signature and keep him in Germany.
The capital club finished 13th in the Bundesliga in the recent season and want to improve defensively.
They think Oppie, who turned out in 37 of Arminia’s 38 3. Liga games last season fits the bill.
Now the English Championship sides keen on signing the defender will have to up the ante or risk losing him to Union Berlin.
It is at present unclear just what level of bid Union Berlin have made for Oppie.
All eyes will now be on how Arminia react to the proposal and how quickly the transfer might progress.
Oppie, a left-back, made an impressive 12 goal contributions over the course of last season and at just 23 years of age, his suitors likely believe he has significant potential still left in the tank.
He also helped Arminia reach the German Cup final this season, coming up against Union Berlin along the way, as well as other Bundesliga clubs Freiburg, Werder Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart.
