Real Madrid took another big step towards being crowned the champions of La Liga as they defeated Real Sociedad 1-0 at the Reale Arena on Friday night.

Arda Guler was the star of the show for Real Madrid as the Turkish wonderkid scored the only goal of the game to win it for his team.

Having been starved of opportunities since returning from injury, Guler got his first start in La Liga last night and he made it count with a match-winning display.

Speaking to the club’s media after the game, the youngster congratulated his teammates on the win and expressed his gratitude towards manager Carlo Ancelotti.

“First of all, I would like to congratulate my teammates and thank the coach for this opportunity today. I’m very happy to have scored and to have got the win,” Guler said.

On scoring his second goal for Real Madrid, he added: “This is the best club in the world and scoring is one of the best feelings. I’m very happy to be here and to have scored. I’d like to thank everyone.”

Ancelotti made wholesale rotations to the side after the win against Barcelona and Guler insisted that the squad showed that they are ready to play whenever called upon.

“This is Real Madrid, the quality of the players is incredible. We’re all always ready to play and I think we’ve shown that today.”

Over the past few months, Guler has gone through a great physical transformation, something that has left the club’s coaching staff amazed. When asked about it, he commented:

“I’m not just working on the physical aspect, but also on the mentality. I’m waiting patiently and I’m still working hard every day. Mentally, I’m focused on continuing to improve.”

Looking forward to Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League semi-final clash against Bayern Munich, Guler said:

“The Champions League has always belonged to Real Madrid. I hope we can get a good result in Munich and play at home with an advantage.”
