Crystal Palace are set to bring Ben Chilwell to Selhurst Park on Monday’s transfer deadline day on loan from Chelsea unless there are any other major issues.

Palace are looking to bolster their defence in the closing stages of the January window, and they have earmarked the 28-year-old defender as a potential option.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have approved all documents, and the defender is now all set to undergo his medical at Selhurst Park today.

He will join on a six-month loan deal. Chilwell has struggled with injuries in recent years, and he managed only one substitute appearance under Enzo Maresca in 2024/25.

The Blues are ready to allow him to leave on loan and get some games under his belt. While Chilwell is primarily a left-back, he can also operate as a left-sided centre-back.

Romano wrote on his personal X handle: “Ben Chilwell, set for medical tests now at Crystal Palace to join the club on loan. Chelsea approved all documents now waiting for medical and then sign. Here we go.”

Palace lost Trevoh Chalobah after Chelsea recalled him in January from his loan spell. The Eagles are also short of options at the back following the injury to Chadi Riad, who will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his ACL.

Chilwell can also play as a wing-back. Palace tried to sign El Hadji Malick Diouf from Slavia Prague in January, but they failed to land him.

The Eagles are also looking to sign AC Milan centre-back Strahinja Pavlovic before Monday’s deadline. In case they fail to sign him, they will make an attempt to sign Tiago Djalo on loan from Juventus.

Chilwell has a wealth of Premier League experience and he could be a decent addition to the team. He needs regular games to boost his fitness and confidence, and it is a big challenge for him to stay fit. If he can do that, Palace can expect to use him regularly for the rest of the season.
