Some interesting comments from this BBC Sport pundit on Newcastle United.
Chris Sutton speaking ahead of Saturday’s match.
Newcastle United facing Ipswich Town at St James’ Park with a 3pm kick-off.
The Newcastle United players knowing they will move up to third in the table if getting the win.
With four games left to play, Newcastle United would be in an incredibly strong position with regards to trying to get Champions League football next season.
Chris Sutton talking to BBC Sport – 24 April 2025:
“It’s great news that Newcastle boss Eddie Howe will be back in the dug-out for this game after his stay in hospital.
“I don’t see his side having any trouble securing the three points here, based on what I saw from Ipswich against Arsenal last week. That game just wasn’t a contest, even before Leif Davis was sent off.
“There is a lot at stake for the Magpies in the race for Champions League qualification, while it is just a matter of time until Ipswich’s relegation is confirmed.
“We might see some anger in Newcastle’s performance after their heavy defeat by Aston Villa but, ultimately, this should be a comfortable win for them.
“Prediction: Newcastle 3 Ipswich 0”
So is the BBC Sport pundit on the money here?
I can’t disagree with much of what he has to say, if anything.
Starting with, as Chris Sutton says, great to see Eddie Howe fully recovered and back at work.
If looking for an ideal match to get back on track after the defeat at Villa, difficult to think of one more ideal than this one.
You still have to do it on the pitch but facing an Ipswich side who are effectively already relegated, are totally demoralised, have at least 10 players missing, with best player and top goalscorer Liam Delap also a big doubt, as he has been carrying a rib injury and only played limited minutes as a late sub in Ipswich’s last two matches.
Newcastle United simply have to go out there and take advantage.
