With so many players coming to join Chelsea this summer (Estevao Willian, Kendry Paez, Mike Penders and Dario Essugo are all confirmed as inbound before we’ve even reached April), there’s going to be another wave of outgoings from the club this summer.

It’s a pattern we’ve been used to in the last couple of years as the incredible influx of new players since the arrival of the Clearlake-Boehly consortium have started to be balanced by an outflux. Nizaar Kinsella dealt with some questions on this front in his Q and A for the BBC today.

Andrey Santos will join those listed above in joining the main squad. So who goes out?

“I expect Chelsea to try to sell Kepa Arrizabalaga, Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi, Carney Chukwuemeka, Raheem Sterling, Armando Broja and Alex Matos,” Kinsella wrote.

“Goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic has a chance of returning from Strasbourg but could also be sold at the right price as interest mounts. Renato Veiga’s situation is similar to Petrovic’s while on loan at Juventus at the moment.

Largely that is as expected, and we’d have to say we agree with most of it. Add Christopher Nkunku and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to the potential sales and you’ve got quite a load of work to be done.

But it’s interesting that Kinsella – who has covered Chelsea for years – still thinks that Petrovic is a doubt to be added back to the main squad. From our perspective, with Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen having failed to convince, while the Serb has a great season with Strasbourg, it feels certain he comes back to compete for a first team spot next season… unless of course, the plan is to sign someone else…
