Wingback has been a problem for Ruben Amorim since he took over Manchester United with the players at his disposal not fit to play that role.

Luke Shaw remains injured and Tyrell Malacia was packed off in January and, as a result, Diogo Dalot has been forced to play on the left and has largely struggled, with his coach revealing that he would be better served playing on the right.

The Portugal international has not exactly set the stage alight on his chosen side as well which is exactly why Amorim is eyeing Geovany Quenda of Sporting while Roger of Braga is another player on the club’s radar.

With Patrick Dorgu set to play on the left, Dalot might be relegated to a backup role and INEOS could look to sell. The Peoples Person has already relayed in the past that Real Madrid are among the teams interested in the ex-Porto starlet.

Bayern join the race

Now Teamtalk have revealed that Bayern Munich have joined the race for the 25-year-old, whose versatility and consistency has caught Vincent Kompany’s eye.

The last game Dalot missed due to injury for the Red Devils was back in February 2023 while he has also only been suspended twice since his move to United.

His dedication off the pitch has earned him praise with Dalot taking after compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo by changing his recovery game completely.

“TT can reveal that German giants Bayern Munich have joined Real Madrid in showing interest in making a summer transfer window move for Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot.

Not a bad idea to let him go

“What has particularly impressed Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, along with Real, is Dalot’s consistency and adaptability – which have made him a target for top European clubs.

“Inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo, he has fine-tuned his recovery, diet, and preparation, making him one of the most reliable players at Man Utd. His discipline is also impressive, with just two suspensions in his time at the club.”

The Portugal international has the most minutes among outfield players at United, which shows his importance to the team. But United could potentially earn more than €40 million, his market value, from his summer sale.

And that could see INEOS pull the plug, especially if they manage to recruit a replacement. Dalot would not be too pleased to play the role of a backup and it makes financial sense to let go.
