Chelsea’s busy summer transfer window has not gone unnoticed, and European heavyweights Bayern Munich are reportedly plotting a sensational swoop for two key Stamford Bridge players: Christopher Nkunku and Malo Gusto. The latest developments, reported by French outlet L’Equipe, suggest that Bayern have made an official enquiry for Gusto and remain keenly interested in Nkunku.
Christopher Nkunku’s first season at Chelsea was anything but smooth. Injury setbacks and tactical shifts under various managers meant the French forward struggled to nail down a starting role. With the arrival of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer, Nkunku’s playing time is under even greater threat.
As Florian Plettenberg revealed, “FC Bayern are still monitoring Christopher Nkunku‘s situation and waiting for market opportunities,” adding that “nothing advanced” has materialised yet. Bayern’s interest is concrete, and TEAMtalk reports Nkunku himself is eager to leave west London. Chelsea value him at £50 million, but Bayern believe they might negotiate that down.

This move, should it happen, would mark an intriguing twist for Nkunku, whose Premier League journey feels unfinished. From Chelsea’s perspective, offloading a high-profile attacker who has not delivered consistent returns could help balance the books and create room for tactical reshaping under Enzo Maresca.
While Nkunku’s exit has been discussed for weeks, the Malo Gusto news is more surprising. According to L’Equipe, Bayern have made an official enquiry about the 22-year-old, who has impressed at Chelsea with 41 appearances across all competitions, plus six in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Versatility is one of Gusto’s strengths. While he naturally operates at right-back, his ability to cover at left-back increases his value. Bayern view him as a potential successor to Sacha Boey, who is expected to depart, with Marseille and Galatasaray both circling.

Chelsea, however, hold the cards here. With Gusto under contract until 2030, the Blues will demand well above the €30 million they paid Lyon in 2023. For Bayern, the challenge will be to balance their books and priorities before moving decisively.
Despite Bayern’s clear interest, Chelsea are in no rush to sell. The club’s aggressive recruitment, paired with long-term player contracts, puts them in a position of strength. Unless Bayern are willing to meet Chelsea’s demands or offer enticing player swaps, it remains to be seen whether these moves will materialise.
L’Equipe’s reporting underlines that both Nkunku and Gusto are players “to keep a close eye on,” but negotiations are complex, and Chelsea are unlikely to buckle easily.
For Chelsea supporters, this report from L’Equipe stirs mixed emotions. On one hand, Christopher Nkunku’s potential exit feels understandable. Injuries, tactical misfits, and now extra competition for attacking spots make his situation precarious. Many Chelsea fans would agree that cashing in at the right price, ideally close to £50 million, would be smart business, especially if those funds are reinvested wisely.
Malo Gusto’s situation, however, is trickier. Fans have been impressed by his consistent displays, work rate, and adaptability. Losing him just as he is bedding into the team under Maresca would feel premature. His contract until 2030 shows the club’s long-term plan, and supporters would expect Chelsea to reject anything but a blockbuster offer.
From a fan’s perspective, the key question is whether Chelsea have the depth to cope if both players leave. The right-back position, in particular, lacks senior cover. While Bayern’s interest flatters Chelsea’s squad quality, fans will hope the club holds firm and prioritises squad balance over short-term financial gains.
In short, Chelsea fans will be watching this saga with cautious curiosity, hoping the club resists unnecessary sales and continues building a squad capable of challenging domestically and in Europe.
