For weeks, Bayern Munich pushed to sign Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart.
After agreeing personal terms with the player, Bayern submitted a €55 million offer, including bonuses - but it fell short of Stuttgart’s valuation.
The Swabians refused to enter negotiations, and Bayern have now walked away from the deal.
“We’ve said enough on the topic,” Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl told reporters following Bayern’s 4-0 friendly win over Tottenham.
“Stuttgart have shown no willingness to talk. For us, the matter is off the table.”
Eberl also dismissed reports suggesting Woltemade and his representatives had issued Bayern a deadline to complete the transfer.
“I’ve heard nothing of the sort. I only saw it reported in the media,” he said.
Woltemade had been identified as an ideal short-term replacement for the injured Jamal Musiala in attacking midfield and potentially as a long-term replacement for Harry Kane up front.
With the deal now off, Bayern may turn to alternative targets - or look internally to fill the gap left by Musiala’s absence.
