FC Barcelona have already set some clear objectives for themselves ahead of the summer. Once the transfer window opens, La Blaugrana already have specific positions in mind that they wish to reinforce. However, in the event of a good market opportunity, Barcelona hardly ever say no.

One such opportunity could be related to 21-year-old former La Masia prodigy Xavi Simons. The current RB Leipzig player, on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, has been linked with a potential move and return to FC Barcelona for a season on loan again.

While the player himself is speculated to be interested in such an operation, PSG may have other plans. According to SPORT, the Parisian club is more likely to sell the player than to look at another loan spell for him. While he does not seem prominent in their own plans, they still would like to get a permanent transfer fee for him.

RB Leipzig themselves have reportedly sent a formal proposal, and while they have good ties with PSG, the French club considers their offer to be inadequate. Moreover, SPORT reports that Arsenal and Bayern are now also interested in his services, and both of those clubs have the necessary financial backing to pursue a permanent transfer.

For Barcelona, on the other hand, spending money on an attacking midfielder is not feasible. If Simons were to arrive as a loan operation, it would benefit Barça but they would not go out of their way to spend money on him. This is mainly because of their own financial limitations, and as they look to invest in a pivot and possibly a winger.

Simons, however, continues to wait for confirmation from the side of FC Barcelona. Only in the event that he knows that his presence would be welcome and Barça are willing to take that step, would he directly confront PSG and possibly try to force the move if he can.

As for what PSG would want in the event of a permanent transfer, the report claims that they are looking for a fee of around €60 million or more. Even if Barcelona were to spend on an attacking midfielder, that amount would still be too significant for them to even consider at any point in the summer.
