Bild reports that there is a verbal agreement between Bayer Leverkusen and Xabi Alonso in case he decides to leave in the summer.
The agreement is that Leverkusen will let Alonso leave in the summer for a suitable fee. The fee is likely to be in the double-digit million range.
Alonso is the favourite to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, following their Champions League exit at the hands of Arsenal on Wednesday evening. It was reported by Sky Sports UK that Ancelotti will go as far as leaving Madrid after the Copa del Rey final, before the end of the season. Madrid are also in the Club World Cup in the summer.
Red Bull Global Head of Soccer, Jürgen Klopp, has also been linked with the role, but that is more unlikely as he only began his role at Red Bull at the turn of the year.
When it comes to finding a replacement for Alonso, Leverkusen may be short of options as Sebastian Hoeneß, who was the most suitable candidate, has committed to Stuttgart.
