Bayer Leverkusen fined €19,000 for premature pitch invasion | OneFootball

The DFB have fined Bayer Leverkusen €19,000 for a premature pitch invasion, causing a brief interruption of play, prior to Die Werkself claiming their first ever Bundesliga title.

Florian Wirtz, with his second goal of the afternoon, gave Leverkusen a 4-0 lead against Weder Bremen in the 84th minute on April 14, prompting Bayer fans to prematurely storm the pitch. Wirtz quickly gestured the fans to calm down, and to save their invasion for the final whistle, before he then completed his hat-trick.

DFB handed Bayer Leverkusen a €19,000 fine for the pitch invasion, and the lighting of four bengal flares after the final whistle. €6,300 of the fine can be reinvested in safety or violence prevention measures.

In what was a historic campaign for Bayer Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso guided his side to an unbeaten domestic season, winning the Bundesliga with five games remaining, which ended Bayern Munich’s 11-year monopoly. Not only that, they beat Kaiserslautern in the DFB Pokal final, and went all the way in the Europa League, eventually losing out to Atalanta.
