Barcelona’s relationship with Sevilla has reportedly hit rock bottom, and this souring of ties has influenced the club’s decision to rule out a potential move for Ansu Fati to the Andalusian side.

According to SPORT, the fallout stems from multiple incidents that have left Barcelona unwilling to engage in any transfer dealings with Sevilla moving forward.

The tension began to build following Sevilla’s stance on the Negreira case. Their refusal to support Barcelona during this controversial period created friction between the two clubs.

Matters worsened when Sevilla put pressure on La Liga during the Dani Olmo registration discussions, further aggravating relations.

For Barcelona, these actions marked a significant breach in the previously cordial relationship, leading the Catalan giants to cut off all institutional ties with Sevilla.

Problems between Barcelona and Sevilla

This strained dynamic reached a boiling point last season when Sevilla’s leadership boycotted the VIP box at Montjuic Stadium during a Barcelona fixture, citing the Negreira case as their reason.

This move deeply upset Barcelona, who had previously maintained friendly ties with Sevilla’s management.

The two clubs had shared a history of successful transfer negotiations, with Barcelona being a key contributor to Sevilla’s financial stability through big-money deals over the years.

The Dani Olmo case

The animosity has since escalated further with the Olmo case. Several La Liga clubs, including Sevilla, have been lobbying the league and the Spanish Football Federation to scrutinise Barcelona’s financial operations.

Some clubs have even threatened legal action over player registrations, and Sevilla has allegedly been among the most vocal opponents.

Sevilla had expressed interest in signing Ansu during the January transfer window and even had their coach engage directly with the player’s representatives. However, he chose to remain at Barcelona to fight for his place in the team.

In recent months, Sevilla have reignited their interest in signing a striker and winger for the upcoming January window. Despite their efforts, Barcelona have made it clear that Ansu will not be part of any discussions with Sevilla.
