Frenkie de Jong has significantly improved his performances in recent matches with Barcelona after a period where he seemed to have lost his relevance in Hansi Flick’s team.
The Dutch midfielder has fully recovered from the ankle issues that hindered his playing time at the beginning of the season, and Flick is now giving him more prominence as the games progress.
This growing trust in De Jong has been reciprocated, as demonstrated in his excellent performance against Alaves.
De Jong’s improvement is a positive development for Barcelona, and the player is now open to renewing his contract with the club, which expires in 2026, after several months of not responding to the offer on the table.

However, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona sporting department will carefully observe his performances in the final stretch of the season to assess his future at the club and make a final decision.
While awaiting further developments, one of the Premier League’s top teams is closely monitoring De Jong’s situation. The club in question is Liverpool, a team previously linked with a move for the Netherlands midfielder.
As the decisive part of the season approaches, it remains to be seen what role De Jong will play as a Barcelona player.
If Flick continues to place his trust in him, it is likely that he will remain at the club and extend his contract.
However, in case there is no agreement over an extension, Barcelona will look to offload their captain instead of risking losing him for nothing in 2026 when his deal runs out.
