Barcelona star Gerard Martín has on Tuesday evening come in for altogether deserved praise across the world of football.
This comes owing to an impressive show of strength and determination on the part of the defender, during the club’s most recent outing.
Martín, for his part, was afforded his latest start tonight, as Barcelona made the trip to San Siro for a Champions League semi-final 2nd leg clash.
The left-back went on to endure something of a nightmare first-half, though…
Struggling on both sides of the ball, Martín was responsible for losing possession on no fewer than 10 occasions, also emerging triumphant from just two of his seven duels.
As much gave rise to widespread calls across the Barcelona fanbase for the 23-year-old to be hauled off at the interval.
Boss Hansi Flick, though, opted to stick with Martín for the 2nd-half.
And to say that the Spaniard has since gone on to repay the faith of his manager would be something of an understatement.
The visiting Blaugrana have battled back from two goals down inside the opening 45 minutes, to now sit on level terms on both the night and in the tie.
And Martín, not exactly renowned for his attacking output, proved himself absolutely key as to why.
After first laying on a fine Eric García strike courtesy of a pinpoint chipped ball to the back post, Barca’s backup left-full was back at it again a short time later, bending a gorgeous delivery onto the head of Dani Olmo for the game’s equaliser.
A stellar turnaround from Martín, proving once more that he is fully deserving of the Barcelona jersey.
