La Liga giants Barcelona recently sent a request the way of European football’s organisers, UEFA.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards as much as having come in relation to the Blaugrana’s upcoming season opener in the Champions League.
After coming within a whisker of a berth in the finale of last season’s edition of the tournament, Hansi Flick’s Barca will kickstart their 2025/26 Champions League campaign next month.
Amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the opening date of the Spotify Camp Nou, though, Joan Laporta and co. have felt it necessary to send a request the way of those in charge of the competition.
This comes amid confirmation on the part of MD that:
‘Regarding the first Champions League home game, Barça has requested to play away on September 16, 17, or 18 and not play at home until the second matchday, September 30 or October 1.’
It is added that, whilst UEFA are usually not particularly accommodating when it comes to such appeals, Barcelona are ‘optimistic’ of a positive outcome.
