Speaking to the media during an appearance at the ‘Seoul Big Gala’ at the team’s hotel, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta made a major claim regarding the registration issues.

There has been a lot made about the situation surrounding Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury-enforced absence and how it will be crucial for Barcelona to register new signing Joan Garcia.

La Liga rules allow clubs to make use of an injured player’s 80% salary space to register another star, provided the absence is long-term (four months or more).

Garcia’s registration not dependent on Ter Stegen situation, confirms Laporta

Addressing the situation, Laporta made it abundantly clear that Garcia’s registration does not depend on Ter Stegen’s absence. But he did stress that using the German’s injury would be the quickest way to get the new signing registered with La Liga.

“The registrations are progressing well. It’s better to do the work rather than keep talking about it. We are doing what we have to do, and we are convinced that we will be able to sign them,” said Laporta, as quoted by SPORT.

“Joan Garcia’s registration doesn’t depend on Ter Stegen’s absence. What is happening is that, via Ter Stegen’s injury, which as you know is an important injury, it is the most direct way of registering him.”

Regarding the team heading into the new season, he added: “We have strengthened the team, we hope that the next season will bring us success and much joy.

“We hope that it will bring us success and joy and unforgettable moments for the fans and we look forward to this. We will fight to win all the competitions in which we participate.”

Happy with the Asia tour

Regarding the club’s tour of Asia, Laporta expressed his happiness with how things had gone for Barcelona, saying:

“We are quite happy about how the tour is going. The reception in both Japan and Korea is incredible. To see how fans and supporters enthusiastically live Barça is wonderful, it shows the global nature of our club. We are very grateful.

“The last match on our YouTube channel had 15.4 million views, the second most watched on our channel in history.”

Expressing his gratitude towards the media in attendance, he added: “First of all, I want to thank you all (media) for coming. We were able to react in time after the initial problems.

“I want to thank you for your dedication. It’s not easy to leave home, to change schedules, the intense rhythm of touring.

“You have covered everything, training sessions, matches, press conferences. You have helped to communicate it to the people at home.”
