Nico Williams is a man in demand in the transfer market this summer window, with a plethora of top clubs, including FC Barcelona, pursuing his signing from Athletic Club.

As has already been reported, the Blaugrana see the 21-year-old Spaniard as their No. 1 target and are hopeful of completing the deal once their financial situation eases up.

It has even been suggested that a verbal agreement might already be in place between Barcelona and Williams’ entourage as well.

But Chelsea are knocking hard on the Spanish international’s doors, with the Blues ready to trigger his €58 million release clause and triple his wages. More recently, PSG have also made their interested known.

Nico Williams is clear – Barcelona or Athletic Club or nothing at all

Despite the growing interest from across Europe, Nico Williams is prioritising continuing in Spain this year, reports SPORT.

It means that the 21-year-old wants to join only Barcelona this summer and if a move does not go through due to economic issues, he would prefer to continue at Athletic Club for another season.

The Spanish international and his entourage are leaning towards a transfer to Barça and are willing to wait for the Catalans to resolve their financial problems and make their move.

If it does not materialise, though, Nico would be happy continuing at Athletic Club, where he feels very comfortable and could enjoy another special season after winning the Copa del Rey last time out.

Nico Williams is understood to be ‘crazy’ about joining Barcelona and the fact that he enjoys a strong relationship with some of the Catalan club’s players like Lamine Yamal and Pedri only makes the transfer even more appealing.

As such, he is prepared to wait, with the club keeping his entourage informed about the situation.

Barcelona are aware that the only negotiation they would have to do for the deal is with the winger’s camp regarding his contract as Athletic Club will not entertain any offers lower than his €58 million release clause.
