A head-turning statistic, highlighting the ongoing excellence of La Liga giants Barcelona in the attacking third across the season to date has come to the fore online.
Barcelona, of course, are fresh off another dominant victory on Sunday evening.
After welcoming Real Sociedad to Catalunya’s capital, the Blaugrana cruised to the right side of a 4-0 result, owing to goals on the part of all of Gerard Martín, Marc Casadó, Ronald Araújo and Robert Lewandowski.
As much means that Hansi Flick’s troops have retaken the lead atop the Spanish top-flight table.
And yet, their latest dominant triumph this evening proved significant beyond just the current La Liga campaign.
This comes amid confirmation that Barca have etched their names into the history books of Spanish football as a whole once more.
As revealed by statisticians Opta:
‘Barcelona have scored 124 goals in 40 games this season in all competitions, the most by a La Liga side after their first 40 games of a campaign since Real Madrid in 1959/60 (132 goals).’
