Barcelona’s pursuit of Nico Williams has been well-documented, with the Catalans looking to finalise the deal within the coming days.

However, that doesn’t mean Barça have lost sight of their other targets in the transfer market. The club still remain serious about signing a new right-back, as they look to add a backup for Jules Kounde.

The Catalans have been linked with various options, including the likes of Dodo and Andrei Ratiu. And it appears the latest to join the list is Denzel Dumfries.

Barcelona eye move for Dumfries

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have entered the race to sign Denzel Dumfries this summer.

Although the Blaugrana have yet to make any formal progress in the deal, they have shown interest in the player, who has become a vital cog in the Inter Milan defence.

The Dutch international had notably played a key role in helping Inter reach the Champions League final last season.

With 179 competitive appearances for the Italian giants, Dumfries also brings significant experience at the highest level of football.

A problem area for Barcelona, however, will be the Dutchman’s long-term contract at Inter. Indeed, the defender’s contract at Inter doesn’t expire until 2028.

Dumfries also has a release clause worth €25 million, which might prove challenging for Barcelona under the current economic conditions.

The Catalans, therefore, might not be able to afford the Dutch international unless the club manage to secure a high-profile exit this summer.

The departure of someone like Ronald Araujo, for example, could go a long way in helping Barcelona free up the desired cash to sign not only Nico but also someone like Dumfries.
