Barcelona in the dark over injured player’s recovery as concerns grow

Barcelona have been dealt several injury blows during the early stages of the season, with the likes of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Marc Bernal (both serious knee ligament tears) among those to be struck down. Of all of those to have passed through the treatment room, the situation of Andreas Christensen is perhaps the most concerning.

Christensen came on as a substitute in Barcelona’s opening day victory at Valencia, but since then, he has not featured at all. The club confirmed that he would be undergo conservative treatment on a long-standing Achilles problem, although no timeline has been established for his return, as per Sport.

Initially, Christensen was expected to return after the ongoing international break, but that will almost certainly not be the case. Furthermore, a portion of his salary was used to register Dani Olmo during the summer, so this could also affect when he is able to return to action.

Currently, Hansi Flick has Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez and Eric Garcia as centre-back options. Christensen is missed, although he will not make his Barcelona comeback until he is 100% fit to do so – that’s Hansi Flick’s philosophy.
