Barcelona secured one of the best deals in recent history when they signed Pedri from Las Palmas in a deal worth €5 million plus add-ons.
A few years later, the Blaugrana attempted to repeat the trick and sign another youth prodigy from Las Palmas – Alberto Moleiro.
Barcelona tried to sign the attacking midfielder from the Canary Islands club back in 2022, but the move ended up falling through due to financial issues.
Ahead of tonight’s La Liga clash between Barcelona and Las Palmas, SPORT reports that the Catalans have not lost sight of Moleiro and are still tracking the Spanish ace.
The 21-year-old’s contract at Gran Canaria expires in 2026 and he is yet to renew, leaving the door open for a summer departure.
As mentioned earlier, Moleiro has been on Barcelona’s radar for some time. The club previously attempted to sign him for €10 million, as per the report, but ended up failing.
Last summer, Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal submitted a €25 million offer with a lucrative contract for the player but Moleiro chose to stay with his boyhood club.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta could bring Moleiro’s name back into discussions during the official lunch meeting between executives today in Las Palmas.
Laporta maintains a good relationship with Las Palmas’ president, Miguel Angel Ramirez, although tensions arose after the Canary Islands club criticised Barcelona’s winter window registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
While Barcelona has never lost sight of Moleiro, the report states that his future appears to be leading elsewhere.
Arsenal, under Mikel Arteta, are currently seen as the most attractive option for the young talent, with a move to the Premier League looking increasingly likely in the summer.
Moleiro has a €60 million release clause in his contract and given the plethora of options Hansi Flick has in the midfield department, it is unlikely Barcelona would prioritise reinforcing the position.
