Barcelona forward’s La Liga goal struggles: 39 shots, 820 minutes, No goals | OneFootball

FC Barcelona have been clearly one of the most entertaining sides in Europe this season, and, along with Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, Lamine Yamal has been a key actor in the great attacking performances that the Catalans have put on display this season.

The 17-year-old winger has got 11 goals and 15 assists to his name in 32 games this season, and his importance for the team goes beyond these numbers, as he contributes immensely in advancing the ball to the final third and his ability to beat his defender one-on-one remains a highly potent weapon for the Blaugrana attack.

However, there is one perplexing fact that somewhat tarnishes his image as a complete forward. As MARCA has noted, the Blaugrana winger is currently enduring a long scoring drought in La Liga, as his last league goal came in October, in the El Clasico against Real Madrid.

It has been four months since that time, during which he has played 820 more minutes in 13 games. However, he has been unable to add another goal to his tally during this period, despite landing 11 of his 39 shots on goal.

In the eleven games between that El Clasico and the start of the season, Yamal had five La Liga goals to his name, a figure he had achieved with his 13 shots on target. With these goals, he was the second leading goal scorer in Hansi Flick’s team, behind Robert Lewandowski.

However, Raphinha has now overtaken the youngster as the second-highest scorer for Barcelona behind the Pole. In fact, he is the joint-third highest scorer in the league, behind only Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe.

One fact that makes Yamal’s league goal drought even more difficult to understand is that he has been able to score in other competitions like the Spanish Super Cup, Copa del Rey, and UEFA Champions League since the start of the new year.

But, he still has to open an account for league goals in 2025, and he will be looking to do this in the upcoming matches against Las Palmas or Real Sociedad.
