Barcelona could stand to profit as AS Roma in talks to sign former La Masia defender | OneFootball

As has been the case for a few years now, FC Barcelona enter the January transfer market in not the healthiest of states finance-wise.

The Blaugrana are trying extremely hard to re-register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor in La Liga after their previous registrations expired on December 31.

With revenue needed, the Catalans have struck an agreement for the sale of VIP boxes at Camp Nou for a fee of €100 million – underselling the asset which they were initially hoping to get €200 million for.

Given the situation, any income would be welcome at Can Barça, and a former player could help to a certain extent.

Mika Marmol to AS Roma?

Indeed, according to Aaron Dominguez, former Barcelona defender Mika Marmol is a January transfer target for Italian giants AS Roma.

In fact, the Serie A outfit are already in talks with the defender’s current club UD Las Palmas over a potential transfer this month.

This development will come as music to the ears of Barcelona, as they would stand to benefit if the deal goes through given they still own 50% of the player rights.

The report suggests that Marmol, who made a solitary senior appearance for Barça, has a release clause worth €10 million in his contract at Las Palmas.

Roma are in talks with the La Liga outfit to finalise an operation just shy of the €10 million release clause amount.

With Barcelona owning 50% of Marmol’s rights, they would pocket close to €5 million if the operation goes through.

Joan Laporta & co. thus will be closely monitoring the situation surrounding the former La Masia talent in the coming days.
