Augsburg’s Fredrik Jensen on the verge of MLS move

Augsburg’s Fredrik Jensen is set to become the next Bundesliga professional to join MLS side St. Louis. Kicker reported on the outgoing transfer earlier in the week. Now the local Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung confirms that Jensen was absent from training today as he’s en-route to the USA.

Jensen contested a total of 100 Bundesliga matches for Augsburg over the last six seasons. Though there were instances in which he was important to Jess Thorup’s squad this season, the Fuggerstädter had little interest in renewing his expiring contract. The 34-times-capped Finnish international did feature in Augsburg’s last nine consecutive matches, however, making the departure not insignificant.

Jensen joins the likes of former Bundesliga professionals Roman Bürki, Eduard Löwen, Cedric Teuchert, Jannes Horn, Timo Baumgartl and Ben Lundt who have followed Pfannenstiel to St. Louis. Pfannstiel last worked in Germany as Fortuna Düsseldorf’s managing director between 2018 and 2020. He was tasked with building the Missouri MLS expansion franchise shortly thereafter.
