FC Augsburg have officially parted ways with head coach Jess Thorup following a disappointing end to the 2024/25 Bundesliga season. The club lost their final four matches, ultimately finishing in 12th place.
Sandro Wagner, who will leave his position as Germany assistant coach after the Nations League Final Four tournament in June, is seem as the favorite to take over.
"We would like to thank Jess Thorup for his efforts at FC Augsburg over the last two years. Jess identified fully with FCA and helped bring stability to our team over the last two years. The decision was far from easy for all of us. However, following an intense decision-making process and open and honest discussion, we have decided to make a change in our head coach in the interests of continuing the development and direction of our club. We wish Jess and his family all the best," said FC Augsburg CEO Michael Ströll.
The club have also chosen to also part ways with sporting director Marinko Jurendic.
“We've sat down over the last few days and taken an in-depth look at all areas. The direction of our club and our sporting development so far and in the future were key topics of discussion. Over the last two years, we've achieved several things together. However, after carefully considering all aspects, we’ve come to the decision to restructure our sporting leadership. We thank Marinko for his dedication and commitment to FCA and wish him and his family all the best for the future,” said Ströll.
