Atlético Madrid identify Napoli star as backup midfield target | OneFootball

The brass at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid are ready to return to the table for a long-time transfer target, in the case of missing out on their priority option this summer.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, citing Italian outlet La Repubblica, who point towards Stanislav Lobotka as the player in question.

It is of course common knowledge at this point that Atlético are on the lookout for reinforcements in the middle of the park with a view to next season.

Specifically, the Rojiblancos are seeking a deep-lying profile, capable of filling the pivot role.

A clear no.1 option has long emerged in the eyes of Diego Simeone and co, in the form of Real Betis standout Johnny Cardoso.

Should a deal for the American international prove too difficult to come by, though, then Atléti are ready to shift focus towards Serie A.

As per MD:

‘According to La Repubblica, Atlético de Madrid are closely monitoring Stanislav Lobotka’s situation.’

The board at the Metropolitano previously expressed a keen interest in Slovak international Lobotka during his time at Celta Vigo, prior to moving to Italy with Napoli.

And a fresh approach could be on the cards this summer, amid claims of Napoli preparing something of a midfield overhaul for next season.
