FC Barcelona have brought their 2024/25 season to a wrap and have shifted the focus to contract renewals and transfers. In terms of outgoings, they have wrapped up an exit for Alex Valle to Como and are close to sorting one out for Ansu Fati.

There are other players that will return to Barcelona this summer who don’t necessarily have a future here. Oriol Romeu, for example, is set to return to the club after the expiry of his loan spell with Girona but will be expected to leave again soon.

One player Barcelona will not want back at the end of the season and will hope to ship out permanently is Clement Lenglet. The Frenchman has been on the club’s books for way too long now and his high wages have made it impossible to ship him out.

The 29-year-old has had a brilliant season at Atletico Madrid on loan. He has emerged as the tailor-made central defender for Diego Simeone’s system and over the course of the campaign, he has become a regular starter.

Now, as per Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are pushing to sign the Barcelona outcast as soon as possible. The report mentions that Lenglet is willing to take a wage cut to join Simeone’s side on a permanent basis and continue his career.

Barcelona were initially hoping for a €10m fee to part ways with Lenglet but at this point, the club would take any sort of compensation to get his wages off the books, once and for all. That said, the club is still hoping to reach some kind of agreement.

Lenglet has made it clear that he wants to continue at Atletico, and it is now up to both clubs to reach a conclusion on a potential deal. The sooner there is a resolution, the easier it is for all parties to make a clean break and move on.

Lenglet’s time at Barcelona has long run its course. What began as a promising transfer has since lost momentum, and a permanent move to Atletico Madrid would represent a clean break for all involved. With the Frenchman eager to stay under Diego Simeone and Barca keen to offload his wages, a swift resolution this summer would serve everyone’s best interests.
