More than three weeks have passed since Real Madrid eliminated Atletico Madrid from the UEFA Champions League, but controversy surrounding that match has not faded.
The spotlight remains firmly on one particular incident — the disallowed penalty involving Julian Alvarez. The decision to overturn the goal sparked outrage among Atletico supporters, and now the backlash has taken a serious turn.
The International Union of Supporters Clubs of Atletico Madrid has issued a public statement, levelling serious accusations against UEFA.
They allege that the European football governing body manipulated the official video released after the match, which was meant to justify the decision to disallow the goal.
The fan union now demands UEFA to “give public explanations by providing the original video and audio and exposing in a transparent manner what were the reasons for editing the video.”
According to the official statement, the fan organisation commissioned a detailed forensic analysis from a respected judicial investigations firm.
The purpose of this was to examine the UEFA-released footage, which had been presented as evidence to support the referee’s decision.
The findings, they claim, confirm that the video was edited — casting serious doubt on the authenticity of UEFA’s version of events.
“The aforementioned report, which can be viewed in full on our website (www.unionatm.es), shows that the video in question has been edited, which leads us to a more than reasonable doubt about the intentions of those who may be responsible for such manipulation,” read the statement.
The Supporters Union is now calling on UEFA to publish the original, unedited video and audio from the incident.
They also demand a clear explanation regarding the timing and motivation behind the alterations made to the footage.
They say that if UEFA fails to respond or refuses to meet these demands, the fan group has warned that they will consider the act to have been done in bad faith.
“If our demands are not met, the Union will continue to move forward until the truth of what happened is clarified, for which we will not hesitate to go to the ordinary courts to protect our legitimate claims.”
